Start your chainsaw!

Winter is the best  season for tree or so-called dry pruning. Plants have lost their leaves and are now at rest. Just one pull starts the Castelgarden petrol driven chainsaw and it’s  ready for work!

Castelgarden chainsaws are reliable, powerful machines, ideal for forestry work or for garden use. For lighter work you can choose an electric model,  ideal for domestic use.

In the past, dry-pruning was carried out to collect brushwood when there was not sufficient firewood for home heating. Pruning was carried out, as it is today,  to thin  foliage to allow  the sun to warm the earth and to reduce the risk of forest fires.

Not many  people know that the quality of a tree trunk can be improved with pruning. A trunk without gnarls is a source of  valuable timber. As such, pruning is an extremely important activity.

Here are some suggestions for effective pruning:

- do not prune branches if their diameter is greater than 6-8 cm  to avoid potential damage;
- if you prune the whole branch, try not to cut too close to the trunk, but leave a natural collar, or an entry point between the branch and the trunk. The collar increases the plant’s natural defences to pathogens;
- if you choose to just shorten a branch, please remember to leave a lower branch which can replace the shortened one.
